| Meet the Board of Directors Peggy Simpson (President)
Peg Simpson has called Dupont Circle home since 1969. As a longtime reporter, she loves the policy-wonk depth here but also relishes the mix of food, music and cultures. She covered Congress for the AP for a decade, reported on national politics and. economics and after 1990 spent a decade in Eastern Europe dissecting the politics, psychology and economic change after the collapse of communism. A former president of the Washington Press Club, she co-chairs a National Press Club freelancers committee. And while she has great success in growing succulents in her rock gardens, she still goes back to her native Texas for “real” BBQ. Abigail Wiebenson (Vice President and Secretary)
Since 1968, I've lived in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, a great place to raise three sons with my late husband, the activist architect John Wiebenson. Having stepped down after heading Lowell School for 19 years, I am now a personal and corporate coach which gives me time to devote to the Village and a neighborhood I continue to admire and enjoy. I serve on the board of Edmund Burke School and the Barker Foundation. I also enjoy biking with Villagers, gardening, my book group, two grandsons, and horseback riding -- as well many hours of citywalks with my dog, Bella.
Mary Braden (Treasurer)
Mary began her 30-year career with the Federal Government as a Legislative Assistant to a Member of Congress and ended it at the Department of Justice as Director of the Department’s Ethics Office. In addition to working with the Village Mary studies Spanish and works as a volunteer docent at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Mary is part of the Village walking group and is responsible for organizing social and cultural activities for Villagers. Mary graduated from the University of Texas with a double major in History and Political Science. Iris Molotsky
Prior to retirement in 2001, Iris Molotsky served for 19 years as director of Membership Development for the American Association of University Professors, a charitable higher education organization dedicated to the defense of academic freedom and due process. She was responsible for membership recruitment and retention, communications and public information, and frequently spoke at college and university campuses. Ms. Molotsky was a founder and continues to serve as co-chair of the “Friends of S & T Streets Park,” a volunteer, non-profit organization, created to preserve and maintain two local parks. This work on this project, which has extended over 12 years, included obtaining grants and fundraising, building membership, and working with the District Department of Parks and Recreation in a partnership arrangement. Since becoming a DCV board member, she has concentrated on grants and membership and serves as editor of the Village newsletter.
Marilyn Newton
Marilyn has lived at Dupont Circle for 25 years. For her first 13 years here, she served as Public Relations and Marketing Director for the Studio Theatre, helping it grow from a small theatre to become one of Washington’s finest. Marilyn served for seven years as Dupont Circle Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for 2B06. In addition, she was Secretary of the Dupont Circle Citizens Association and was Chairman of the Call Box Committee that renovated 21 historic Dupont Circle call boxes. Marilyn is currently serving on the Dupont Circle Conservancy and on the board of the Friends of the DC Superior Court. Marilyn still plays tennis, but without running very fast. Caroline Mindel

Bio and picture coming soon!
Alaire and her husband, Lex, bought their house on Q Street in 1973 when it was a rooming house, thinking they would stay a year or so, but they fell in love with the neighborhood and never got around to leaving. They raised their two sons here, and Alaire served as President of the Ross School PTA and later on the DC Board of Education. Several years ago Alaire retired from a legal career with the American Bar Association and began a new career in medicine. She works as a lactation consultant at the Virginia Hospital Center and at the Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington. She and Lex have three grandsons (and counting). When not visiting grandsons, Alaire weaves on any of her 6 looms, some of which she is restoring to their former beauty and function after spending years in someone’s barn. | |
