What is a Village?
The “Village” concept began in Boston about a decade ago. It has proliferated in many cities, gaining the attention and endorsement of the local and national AARP and Offices on Aging. Villages are non-profit organizations devoted to linking older residents to neighborhood social/cultural activities and health-related and reliable home-maintenance services, all with the intention of encouraging and assisting residents to remain in their homes. Neighborhood volunteers of all ages provide a large proportion of the services and activities. Villages typically hire an Administrator, are overseen by a Board comprised of local residents and operate from donations and membership dues.
Why Start Dupont Circle Village?
Today, many people want to remain in their homes as they grow older. Our Village, primarily through volunteers, enables Dupont Circle residents to retain their independence by providing help as needs arise regarding illness, disability, temporary hardship, and the maintenance of their homes. Equally important, our Village encourages cultural and socializing events to promote enjoyment and connectedness in our vibrant urban neighborhood.
Dupont Circle Village Mission Statement
The Dupont Circle Village is a non-profit neighborhood organization that connects residents to services and cultural/social activities. Membership enables Villagers to maintain their health and home as they embrace the benefits and challenges of aging.
